Bindiya Vohra, Co-founder and Director – Digital Solutions, ThoughtSol talks on D&I initiatives for women empowerment, the management’s focus on building the culture and the future outlook for inclusive workforce.
Q. What is the main objective of ThoughtSol to encompass an inclusive workforce mainly women employees?
Bindiya : Our main objective at ThoughtSol for having an inclusive workforce, especially focusing on women employees, is multifaceted. We aim to provide more opportunities for women, recognizing that they bring unique perspectives and strengths to the table. We strongly believe that it’s always a good idea to mix diverse talents as it fosters innovation and creativity. Our goal is not only to support gender equality but to set a benchmark in the industry for inclusive practices.
Q. What is the current ratio of male to female workforce at ThoughtSol? How would the number evolve by end of 2025 ?
Bindiya : Currently, the ratio of male to female employees at ThoughtSol stands at approximately 25% female employees. A couple of years ago, this ratio was around 20%. Over the past years, the ratio has varied between 20% and 25%.
By the end of 2025, the ratio of female to male employees at ThoughtSol is expected to either remain around the current percentage or increase by approximately 5%. This projection largely depends on the nature of our projects and the specific skill sets required. Nevertheless, we are committed to maintaining an inclusive workforce and will continue to support and enhance female participation wherever possible.
Q. What are the key catalysts or prime factors for the increased number of female employees in India’s corporate sector in recent years ?
Bindiya : The increased number of female employees in India’s corporate sector is a positive and encouraging trend. The past generations laid the groundwork by advocating for equal educational opportunities, and today, we are seeing the results of those efforts. There has also been a cultural shift towards recognizing the importance of gender diversity and the unique contributions women make in the workplace.
At ThoughtSol, the HR and Operations departments are predominantly female. Women in these departments have consistently demonstrated high efficiency, empathy, and excellent organizational skills, which are crucial for these roles.
How are you building the next women leaders at ThoughtSol? How has a dedicated focus on D&I initiatives added to the company’s culture and success?
Bindiya : We are dedicated to building women leaders at ThoughtSol by encouraging our female employees to pursue managerial positions across various departments. We provide leadership training programs and mentorship opportunities.
Our focus on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) initiatives has significantly enriched ThoughtSol’s culture and success. Our recently launched “Embrace All” campaign, which promotes job opportunities for differently abled individuals and the LGBTQ+ community, has created a more accepting and diverse work environment.
Q. But there are still challenges for growing acceptance of women workforce in technology industry of India?
Bindiya : The technology industry in India is still largely male-dominated, which can pose several challenges for women, such as gender bias and fewer opportunities for advancement. Women can overcome these challenges by acquiring the necessary technical skills, seeking continuous professional development, and building strong professional networks.
Q. Can you highlight few specific initiatives and prime measures to make ThoughtSol a great place to work for women workforce?
Bindiya : ThoughtSol has always been an advocate of great place to work for our employees including women workforce. Over the years, we have launched many initiatives for women to empower them for their career.
Some of the key initiatives are as below:
Menstrual Leave Policy: Recognizing the physiological needs of women, we have introduced a menstrual leave policy.
Maternity Leave with Extended Sabbatical Leave: Our maternity leave policy offers six months of paid leave. Also, we offer sabbatical leave options for managerial-level female employees post maternity leave.
Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Policies: Regular training sessions and workshops are conducted to educate employees about these policies, their rights, and the procedures for reporting any grievances.
Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Initiatives: We have a comprehensive D&I strategy that promotes the inclusion of differently abled individuals and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Leadership Development Programs: We also provide mentorship opportunities where experienced leaders guide and support women in their career journeys, helping them navigate challenges and seize growth opportunities.
Work-Life Balance Support: We promote a healthy work-life balance through flexible work arrangements, including remote work options and flexible hours.
Q. What is your advice to women workforce in the IT industry to shine in their careers? Any leadership mantras?
Bindiya : My advice to them is to continually invest in their skillsets and stay updated with the latest technological advancements. Other than that, building a strong network, seeking mentorship, and not hesitating to take on challenging roles can significantly enhance their careers.
My leadership mantra for success over the years for women empowerment has been believe in yourself, seek and offer support and continuous learning.
